Brief Introduction of Punjabi Language.

Punjabi is an Indo-Aryan language spoken by about 130 million people, mainly in West Punjab in Pakistan and in East Punjab in India.

There are also significant numbers of Punjabi speakers in the UK, Canada, the UAE, the USA, Saudi Arabia and Australia.

Punjabi descended from the Shauraseni language of medieval northern India and became a distinct language during the 11th century.

In India Punjabi is written with the Gurmukhi alphabet, while in Pakistan it is written with a version of the Persian alphabet known as Shahmukhi.

The written standard for Punjabi in both India and Pakistan is known as Majhi, which is named after the Majha region of Punjab.

The Gurmukhi alphabet developed from the Landa alphabet and was standardized during the 16th century by Guru Angad Dev Ji, the second Sikh guru.

Gurmukhi is the Sikh language of prayer in which the Guru Granth Sahib is written.

The second Sikh guru, Guru Angad transcribed the compositions of his predecessor, Guru Nanak, into Gurmukhi. He developed a phonetic script, derived from a 16th century script, which could be easily learned by the common person.

The words of the ancient Gurmukhi language are similar to those of modern Punjabi, but differs grammatically in that it is a poetic rather spoken language.

The Punjabi alphabet also has additional modern day characters which are not included in Gurmukhi script and which do not appear in the scriptural verses of the Guru Granth Sahib.

Writing Scripts used for Writing the Punjabi Language.

There are several different scripts used for writing the Punjabi language, depending on the region and the dialect spoken, as well as the religion of the speaker.

In the
Punjab province of Pakistan, the script used is Shahmukhi and differs from the standard Nastaʿlīq script as it has four additional letters.

The eastern part of the
Punjab region, located in India, is divided into three states. In the state of Punjab, the Gurmukhī script is generally used for writing Punjabi.

Punjabi Hindus, who are mainly concentrated in the neighboring Indian states such as Haryana and Himachal Pradesh, as well as the national capital territory of Delhi, sometimes use the Devanāgarī script to write Punjabi.

The Shahmukhi alphabet was first used by the Sufi poets of the Punjab; it became the conventional writing style for the Muslim populace of the Pakistani province of Punjab following the independence of Pakistan in 1947, while the largely Hindu and Sikh modern-day state of Punjab, India adopted the Gurmukhi script to record the Punjabi language.

Shahmukhi alphabet use in the
Indian Punjab is mainly confined to the elderly generation, although it is also recommended to be studied for students studying at M.A level in Punjabi. It is however, used as the main alphabet to write the Pothohari dialect in Indian Jammu and Kashmir.

While Punjabi GCSE and A Level qualifications are available to students in the
United Kingdom; their written exam is in Gurmukhi only.

Why Punjabi should be the educational and official language of Punjab?

It is the command of God that; We sent not an apostle except (to teach) in the language of his (own) people, in order to make (things) clear to them. (14-4)

By avoiding the Punjabi language.
By disowning Punjabi culture.
By ignoring Punjabi traditions.

Punjabis are wasting their time.
Punjabis spoiled their personal life.
Punjabis are spoiling their social life.
Punjabis will spoil the future of their kids.

Punjabis don't know the real power of Punjabi.
Punjabis do not know the reality of Punjabi that;
Punjabis are the largest ethnic group in Pakistan.
The Punjabi nation is the 9th biggest nation of the world.
The Punjabi nation is the 3rd biggest nation of the South Asia.
Punjabi Muslims are the 3rd largest ethnic Muslim community in the World.

It is all, due to not providing the right of education in the mother language of Punjabi people and not declaring the Punjabi as an official language of
Punjab.

The Punjabi language has emerged as an independent language in the 12th century. Baba Fariduddin Ganjshakar is generally recognized as the first major poet of the Punjabi language. Revered by Muslims, he is considered one of the fifteen Sikh bhagats and selections from his work are included in the Guru Granth Sahib, the Sikh sacred scripture.

Punjabi language is an older language than Urdu and has a richer cultural and spiritual asset as compared to Urdu. After invading Punjab in 1849, Britishers planted the Urdu and Hindi in United Punjab for their political pity interests to divide the Punjabi nation by diverting the Muslim Punjabis towards Urdu language, Hindu Punjabis towards Hindi language and retaining the Punjabi language for Sikh Punjabis. Hence Urdu became a virus in the cultural and spiritual grooming of Muslim Punjabis.

As the Punjabi language has groomed by the Sufi saints, therefore, Punjabi language has a spiritual background and Punjabi language has potential for wisdom related inventions and intellects to develop the moral character for good deeds of life and spiritual development for the life of the hereafter.

For skill related inventions and intellects, usually international Lingua-Franca plays an essential role, but for wisdom related inventions and intellects, spiritually rich language is of vital importance, especially if it is your mother language. Therefore, it is in the best interest of Punjabis to adopt the English as an international Lingua-Franca and Punjabi as their national language.

If we start speaking other languages and forget our own, we would not be we, we would be clones of an alien people; we would be aliens to ourselves" UNESCO, 1958.

Punjabi is an actual, original and potential language of
Punjab and Punjabi nation. A language groomed, patronized, propagated by the “Sufi Saints of Punjab”. Therefore, it is an earnest need to implant the Punjabi language as an educational and official language of Punjab.

Open Letter To The Chief Minister Punjab, Pakistan To Implant Punjabi Language.

The Honorable Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif
Chief Minister of Punjab

Subject: Request to implant Punjabi Language as an Educational and Official Language of
Punjab.

Honorable Chief Minister of Punjab,

It is the command of God that; We sent not an apostle except (to teach) in the language of his (own) people, in order to make (things) clear to them. (14-4)

By avoiding Punjabi language.

As the Punjabi language is groomed by the Sufi saints Baba Farid, Baba Nanak, Shah Hussain, Sultan Bahu, Bulleh Shah, Waris Shah, Khwaja Ghulam Farid, Mian Muhammad Bakhsh, therefore, Punjabi language has spiritual background. Because of that, Punjabi language has potential for wisdom related inventions and intellects to develop moral character for the good deeds of life and spiritual development for the life of the hereafter.

Punjabi language is an older language than Urdu and has a richer cultural and spiritual asset as compare to Urdu. Urdu as a language was created in 1800 CE after establishing the Fort William College in Calcutta by the British East India Company. Honorable Chief Minister of Punjab, you are requested to take an earnest action to implant the Punjabi language as an educational language of Punjab to enhance the literacy rate in Punjab by providing the educational facility in the mother language of the people of Punjab.

Honorable Chief Minister of Punjab, you are requested to take an earnest action to implant the Punjabi language as an official language of Punjab to facilitate the people of Punjab in official dealing with the government departments of Punjab by providing the communication and correspondence facility in the mother language of the people of Punjab.

Why Punjabi was Abolished in Punjab by the British?

The British first introduced Urdu as an educational and official language in Punjab due to fear of Punjabi nationalism, because of the status of Punjabi language, culture and traditions in Punjab as a binding force between Muslim Punjabi, Hindu Punjabi, Sikh Punjabi, Christian Punjabi.

For the British,
Punjab was a frontier province, Punjabi was a secular martial nation and Punjab had boundaries with Afghanistan and Persia. Therefore, the Punjabis, unlike the Bengalis and the Sindhis, were not allowed to use their mother tongue as an educational and official language due to fear of boast in Punjabi nationalism.

After an era of Ranjeet Singh, during the rule of the
British Empire in Punjab, British rulers imposed martial law in Punjab. To govern Punjab, they brought Urdu-speaking Muslim and Hindi-speaking Hindu bureaucracy and establishment from UP, as a result Punjabi became a socially and politically depressed and deprived nation due to the hegemony of Urdu and Hindi language, Gunga Jumna culture and UP-ite traditions. It resulted supremacy of UP-ite and UP-ite mindset in policy making and decision taking in national affairs and foreign relationship, managed, motivated and sponsored by the British rulers to eliminate the Muslim, Sikh, Hindu and Christian Punjabis into different religions and languages to secure their rule over last captured land and martial race of India.

However, during British rule in
India, Muslim, Hindu, Sikh and Christian Punjabis were still a nation because of common land, language, culture and traditions. The religion was a personal subject, although, religious dissimilarity was a natural reality. However, clans moreover, communities were the institutions for social interaction and charity work. Punjab was a secular regime and Punjabi was a respectable and honorable language, culture and nation in India.

In 19th century due to politics of congress, dominated by Hindu and Hindi speaking leaders, Hindu Punjabi started preferring Hindi language, culture and traditions instead of Punjabi. Later on, Muslim Punjabis did the same due to the influence of the Muslim League, dominated by the UP-ite Urdu speaking Muslim leaders and presence of UP-ite Muslims in
Punjab.

As a consequence of preferring Hindi language, culture and traditions by Hindu Punjabis and Urdu language, culture and traditions by Muslim Punjabis, the characteristics of assimilation to accomplish the sociological instinct started to switch from “Nation to Religion” and “A Great Nation of Sub-Continent Got Divided and Get Emerged into Muslim and Hindu States” as well as, started receiving the reward of hate and regret from every honorable nation, in addition to the humiliation, loathing and abuse from Hindi and Urdu speaking persons. This is the punishment of Punjabis for not respecting their motherland, language, culture and traditions. Anyway, Evolution exists everywhere, without realizing that, it is at right direction or wrong.

Since decades, Punjabis were in trouble because of lacking interest in Punjabi nationalist politics, ignorant to the Punjabi language, unaware with the Punjabi culture and uninformed for the Punjabi traditions because of preference to the Urdu language, Gunga Jumna culture and UP-ite traditions.

Especially, the Punjabis, those migrated from the Indian side of
Punjab to Pakistan were more under the domination of Urdu language, Gunga Jumna culture and UPite traditions. Therefore, they accepted and owned the hegemony of Urdu language, Gunga Jumna culture and UPite traditions by surrendering the Punjabi language, culture and traditions. In addition, they also facilitated and supported the UP-ite to dominate Urdu language, Gunga Jumna culture and UPite traditions by means of suppressing and eliminating the languages, cultures and traditions of original and actual entities of Pakistan i.e. Sindhis, Balochis, Pukhtoons and Punjabis (due to many factors).

Hence, time has proved that; independence of Pakistan at the cost of splitting up Punjab with the blood of 2 million Punjabis and displacement of 20 million Punjabis, furthermore, lending support to UP-ite for dominating the Urdu language, Gunga Jumna culture and UPite traditions by means of suppressing and eliminating the languages, cultures and traditions of original and actual entities of Pakistan i.e. Sindhi, Baloch, Pukhtoon and Punjabi, in conjunction with, hegemony of UP-ite Muhajirs in national and foreign affairs bureaucracy, military and civil establishment, skilled and technical professions, politics and media organizations, was a blunder by the Punjabis due to political immaturity, irresponsibility and pettiness.

Urdu Speaking UP-ites, those concurred foremost cities of Punjab during British rule and after creation of Pakistan, are a major problem for Punjabi Nation and Punjabi Language. As they also speak Punjabi therefore, it is difficult to distinguish them that they are Punjabi or Urdu speaking UP-ites. By camouflaging in Punjabi skin, these UP-ite Urdu speaking Muhajirs is the main conspirators in Punjab to confuse Punjabi people and degrade Punjabi language along with support to Urdu language by the propaganda of “ Urdu is Binding Language of Pakistani People”, rather Language of Muslims.
